Second Wind Farm

In spring of 2012 Ben and Amy decided to make a change in their lives, to raise their children close to the land, surrounded by animals, nature, mud, grime and hard work. Both no stranger to any of these elements, Ben an animal science major at UVM with a Master's degree in Mastitis Management in Dairy Cattle and Amy a lifelong horse enthusiast, Dressage trainer and physical therapist. 

 

We were lucky enough to find an amazing farm to lease in the hilly neighborhood where Amy grew up, on Dunham Hill just outside the village Woodstock Vermont.  The farm has diverse land, steep pastures and woodlands, a small valley, ponds, meadows and wetlands which make farming challenging, but lovely for vistas and sunsets and keeping us all in shape!  

 

At SWF, we strive to produce the highest quality meats for our community, neighbors and family with two goals emphasized:

1.  Raising animals humanely, naturally,  while placing a huge emphasis on quality of animal life.

2. Land preservation, pasture reclamation and increased pasture productivity.  

 

As, the name implies, the farm is our second wind,  as we both have off farm employment.  Ben, a successful residential building contractor for the last 13 years who owns and operates H&H Custom Builders and Amy a PT at OHC in Woodstock, specializing in postural restoration.

Selling meat products helps finance the farm activities which we hope will evolve in the future into part of a sustainable enterprise that will support and nourish generations to come.
